Comparison between Canon SX1 and Canon G11?

I am considering buying one of these two. I already have an S5IS which to be honest, had some noise issues. I am not interested that much in the video shooting, only picture taking. Has anyone used both and can give me some advice?

The main deference are * sensor * optical zoom and quality if movie
I prefer SX! because it has 20x optical zoom and you can take a very good picture of nature and it has HD quality for movie.

I have a SX1 and have used a G11 and own a G10.

The SX1 IS great for HD video, the G11 is great for photos.

Only buy the SX1 if you want HD video. It's a very noisy camera for stills, big and very plastic, The G11 is built like a brick, takes stunning photos, as good as any of the best compacts can do ( compacts have much smaller sensors than digital SLRs so can never reproduce a totally film like photo ) and fits in a pocket. You'll use the G11 a lot more than the SX1. You should also look at the Canon S90 - same insides, smaller, bigger lens which lets in more light - I will be buying it next.

Good luck

If you want good image quality I would recommend Canon G11

However, for this price range I would recommend get Digital SLR Camera which take far better picture than best point & shoot camera because Digital SLR Camera have much better optics, much larger sensors, better faster processors. The sensors on most Digital SLR are nearly 15 times larger than the sensors on point and shoot cameras. Therefore the pixels are 15 times larger. Larger pixels deliver better detail and less noise than smaller ones.Good model for this price range that I would recommend are Canon Rebel XS or Nikon D3000

The SX1 IS produces more noise than the SX10 IS (the successor to your S5 IS), so I wouldn't recommend it.

The G11 has good ISO capability (for a compact camera) making it a good option.

However, for much better ISO capability and performance, you should consider a dSLR instead. I see that on Amazon, you can buy the G11 for exactly the same price as the XS.

But, if you're only interested in a compact (and you're aware of it's limitations) the G11 looks to be a good choice...
