Only con is with some smaller cams is they require a special battery to operate. They aren't say double AAs.Maybe hard to find or expensive at some point. Some recharge batteries won't last long taking flash pix.AA batteries will last longer than a recharge.

LOL, who told you that Nikon S230 break too easily?

ALL cameras break if you drop them or get them wet except for just a few designed to be abused.

If the camera feels good in your hands and has the features you want and it is in your budget range, buy it.

It has a great benefit since it uses the state of the art Li-ion battery that should last you for many years if you follow the instructions in your user manual.

AA batteries can get very expensive over time and the rechargeable NiMH AA's cannot hold a charge as well as a Li-ion battery

I would suggest to go with
Nikon Coolpix S630 12MP Digital Camera with 7x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD

I would buy the Canon SD1200 IS over the S230. The 1200 IS has slightly better image quality, and better battery life. Beach Camera and crutchfield.com both have the Canon SD1200 IS for $150-+shipping if bought on line.
You also might consider the Sony DSC-W230. 4X optical zoom, 12 megapixels. Very good on battery life.
