is there such thing as a waterproof camera case?

like one that i can trust to put my Digital Camera underwater and take pictures?

Best Answer

Most Digital Camera have their own or recommends a third party underwater case. Depending on the make, model, size of your Digital Camera and depth you are going down to, my suggestion is to first go to the manufacturer's website and check out the accessories. Otherwise, you can select either a solid, hard underwater camera casing or a soft zip-lock type version. Of course, the hard body/cases are more expensive than the zip-lock versions.

If you are only going to water parks and or vacationing and going to pools and about 10 feet deep, I suggest the zip-lock versions by DryPak, DiCaPac or AquaPac or any similar manufacturer. For scuba diving, I suggest hard bodies which also works for more expensive DSLR cameras. Please take note that water pressure (depth you go down to) also needs to be factored in. Most camera's shutter release button will react to water pressure in a given depth.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

which digital camera should i purchase?

so i'm stuck between these two cameras
samsung ST550

olympus stylus tough-6000

basically, my choice is the former but my sister tells me to get the latter because i'm clumsy. (hence, the shockproof thing..)
but i still don't know.... what should i get? or do you know any other better digital cameras that i could get instead?

Best Answer

Purchasing a camera is like buying a pair of new shoes, it's personal. Why don't you go down to your local camera store like Best Buy and check both units out. Get a feel for the size and features of each camera in question then decide.

Essentially, the cameras are similar with features with the Samsung having more resolution than the Olympus. The Samsung's lens protrudes out and the Olympus uses an internal prism to focus on the subject. The Samsung ST550 is nice if you like taking pictures of yourself and/or with a friend. If you are a bit clumsy as your sister wrote, then the Olympus Stylus Tough 6000 is not a bad choice either.

Either way, it is still your own PERSONAL choice. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I have read the reviews for olympus and many peoples say that its not a good waterproof camera

So i would recommend you to go with Samsung ST550

is the fujifilm 3d camera any good? or should i get a lomo?

i heard mix reviews about the 3d camera and now im not sure whether i should get it. lomo seems more popular nowadays and i can get a holga at an affordable price

Best Answer

Interesting choices.

One is a Digital Camera that captures 3 dimensional images (difficult to view without a 3D viewer ($500)) and a primitive film camera with only one shutter speed and two apertures to choose exposures.

A LOMO camera costs under $60. The Funifilm 3D camera $600. That is a ten times difference.

There are many excellent alternatives in between.

If you want to shoot film, I would suggest you buy a good used 35 mm SLR with a standard zoom lens to start your adventure with photography. If you want a digital camera, you need to look here for your options. [URL Truncated]

Answer by fhotoace on 02 Jan 2010 11:40:24

Oh dear another person that wants to produce "art" why don't you spend the money on a proper camera and learn about photography?

Answer by CiaoChao on 02 Jan 2010 04:43:00

There's are two DIFFERENT choices. I know nothing about lomo, but I love 3-D and I would love to own that Fujifilm 3-D camera. Like Fotoace said, you'll need a special view to use it. That's disappointing considering how many other ways have been developed to view 3-D.

Back to the point, what do you want to do? For general photography, neither obviously. These are both niche products for special interests, just like time lapse cameras, infrared cameras, waterproof cameras, and all that.

I think basically one brand from the next is equally easy or tough to use. There is a learning curve to cameras. Also, DSLR cameras have modes you can set them to so that you can just point the camera and shoot.

There are a number of good brands so don't be sold on the idea one brand is better than another. I would keep your costs down. I would get a DSLR with a short zoom (like a 18-55mm) to start. No reason to spend more than $425 to $550. Either a 10MP or 12MP (MP means mega pixel) will do just fine.

Below, I listed some links where you can look up reviews and see what camera works best for you. The first link listed below is to a web page that lists the 4 DSLR cameras I am recommending. This list will let you compare features and specs, also it has link to reviews to 3 of the 4 cameras, the reviews includes sample images from the cameras.

Here are some models that I think are well worth researching:
(I included the US price I have seen and what that equals in British Pounds £)
Sony Alpha A230 Digital SLR 10 MP with 18-55mm Lens - $429 (£266)
Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $449 (£280)
EOS Rebel XS 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm IS Lens - $449 (£280)
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom (has HD Video also) - $550 (£280)

Hope this helps. Pick a price range, some features you know you want, and even consider which camera feels good in your hand as a factor. Ask if yourself what you need of the camera, like good high ISO ability which is important in low light, do you want the camera to be capable of doing video, and other features to consider.

I am finding the Pentax K-x intriguing with its very high quality ability when shooting in high ISO and that it has the HD video feature. In fact, I am a Nikon user who is thinking about get a Pentax K-x as an extra camera.

Plenty of great cameras, get one you like and start learning the principles of photography and you will be on your way to making some great images. If you have any questions and if you think I can be of help then please do contact me.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

There are fish eye lenses you can buy for Digital cameras, but it is well worth it to wait until you have a DSLR before you buy one. I bought a fish eye for my Coolpix and it doesn't work like a professional one would.

I did look around for you anyways on various photography stores, and I actually found none for Canon. just Nikon, Panasonic and one for Sony. Sorry. try using a program to try the effect if you really want the fish eye effect.

Answer by babettekd on 02 Jan 2010 03:39:32

While some P&S cameras can have a fisheye attachment, the Ixus series like most don't have a filter threat to which you can attach one.

Nikon Camera D3000. I want to buy a telephoto lens. What model should I buy?

Nikon Camera D3000. I want to buy a telephoto lens. What model should I buy?

If you want to go really wild on the telephoto buy an FX lens (yes i know the D3000 is DX).

For instance if you get a 400mm FX you will have a 600mm equivalent on your camera. This is also good because in the future if you want to buy a full body (FX) that lens will have no problems there.

On the other hand you can only go so far as 200mm in the DX format with the 200mm fixed and the 18-200mm. They are both good lenses.

Now it is a bit up to you. Do you need extreme zoom in the 400s or 600's mm or a modest 200mm...

Answer by Gohaleg on 02 Jan 2010 03:49:36

Check out Nikon, Tamron and Sigma. Tamron and Sigma make lenses for camera brands and I have had good success in the past with both.

Look into zooms that least go up to 200mm but if you really want some extra telephoto range to zoom in even closer then there are zooms that go up to 250mm and 300mm.

Make sure the lens works fully with your D3000, it is one of the Nikons that needs the auto focus motor in the lens, just like some other Nikon DSLRs, D40, D40x, D60 & D5000.

I listed some links to provide some more information.

Hope this helps.

It depends what you want to shoot with it. If you are shooting wildlife I would go for a longer lens with at least 300mm so you don't scare them away. But I own a 18-55 and a 55-200 which I really enjoy because the focal lengths don't overlap and one picks up where the other one leaves off. The only problem I have with the 55-200 is that sometimes I find that I could use a little more reach. The 70-300 is supposedly a great lens, but it is longer than the 55-200 and also is much more expensive.

Help finding a good point and shoot camera?

My mother has a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V1 5.0 Megapixel Digital Camera that she bought years ago for a few hundred bucks. We are now looking at purchasing a new camera because the old one is too big and has a small screen and takes a long time to take pictures. We looked a Cannons and new Sonys and nothing we have found is even close in quality. We have taken the same pictures to compare in two different cameras and the old Sony wins by far with the best quality and color. The new cameras we tried were 10 megapixel and 12.1 and the old one that beat it is a 5.0. Does anyone know of a point and shoot that is of the same quality of our old Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V1? I doubt anyone would be able to tell that their picture quality is worse because you most likely don't have this particular camera but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Best Answer

Its a great camera to buy has
- 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor
- Separate low pass filter with ultra-sonic vibration to remove dust
- Anti-static coatings on sensor surface, software based dust mapping / removal
- Nine area Auto Focus sensor (same as EOS 30D)
- Picture Styles, larger range of image parameter adjustment (same as EOS 30D)
- Faster image processing
- Removal of control panel LCD display, now uses main LCD monitor
- Proximity sensor below viewfinder eyepiece to disable main LCD during composition
- Camera settings made on main LCD (such as metering, white balance, ISO, AF area etc.)
- Setting adjustment saved with half-press of shutter release
- Continuous shooting buffer up to 27 JPEG and 10 RAW images
- Large 2.5" LCD monitor with 160° viewing angle
- Image magnification available in record review
- Histogram available as brightness (Luminance) or RGB

But
- No programmable Auto ISO(such as seen on the Nikon D80, almost 'ISO priority')
- No spot metering
- Settings such as ISO not repeated on viewfinder status bar while being adjusted
- Mirror lock-up buried in a custom menu

Answer by niks on 01 Jan 2010 06:28:03

I think the Canon Rebel XTi is discontinued and you would be better served getting a more current DSLR camera. You do not need to get something is the higher price range and I would be open to other brands. Below is a short list of DSLR cameras that I am recommending and I am including an estimated price.

Sony Alpha A230 Digital SLR 10 MP with 18-55mm Lens - $429
Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $449
EOS Rebel XS 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm IS Lens - $449
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom (has HD Video also) - $550

The first link is to a webpage that is a side by side listing the these cameras so that you can compare features and specs plus this webpage has links to reviews of all but one of these cameras. The reviews also have sample images from the cameras. Also I included some links to some dealers so that you can try and get the best price. Some of these dealers have some of these cameras with some nice extras, free shipping is very common, and sometimes they are offering a free memory card and/or camera bag. Sometimes you have to click in the "add to cart" button to see the actual price.

The Canon Rebel XS I list above is the newer, better version of the Rebel XTi you mentioned and the newer XS cost less. I think the other cameras are worth a look and the Pentax K-x is very intriguing, it has HD movie ability and the stronger high ISO ability.

Hope this helps.

Brownie 127 camera Help!?

I jist found an old 1950's Brownie 127 camera. The window was red so I wound the film up and took it out. I was wondering if there was an pictures on it and where they could develope it and show me what photos (if any) are on it.

Any photo shop or pharmacist. Boots still do photo processing.

Answer by Judy Teen on 01 Jan 2010 07:35:55

The film requires special handling - don't just take it to a pharmacy or film drop off. The film will be delicate and could get damaged in processing.

I'd suggest going to a local camera shop or professional photo lab and talking to the pros there, ask if they know a local lab that can handle old film. Don't just give it to anyone, make sure they know how to handle older film.

I found links for labs that process old film

What they failed to you tell you is that:

120 film is not easy to find (they're usually used by professionals). So you won't find them at a store a block away that sells regular film. It's even more expensive to send to the lab and have it developed and printed. After a few rolls, you'll put the camera away.

If you want to use a film camera, get a 35 mm one instead. Nikon FM2 is a fine camera.

Answer by Pooky on 01 Jan 2010 01:09:01

I think any of those will work ok. You are more interested in the square format and a different way of creating and I do not see where one camera is better for another in regards to this.

LR44 is very common. Check hardware shops, photo shops, drugstores and watch repair shops. You can change it yourself. All you need is a small coin to open the hatch at the bottom of the camera. Take note of the battery orientation before you pull the old ones out.

If you're able to find SR44 batteries, use them. LR44 are cheaper, put vary in voltage along it's life, thus meter readings vary from time to time. It isn't critical for negative film, but for slide, it's worth the extra price of the SR44.

Why can't I use the panorama option on my Olympus Stylus 850SW Camera?

Can someone please help me? I have had this problem for a long time and I really need to get it fixed. Your question is wonderfully thorough and coherent (which is pretty unusual around here), and you've put thought into this already. I wish I had the answer for you, but I don't :-(

Have you looked around the Olympus website? There might be a FAQ section, or perhaps even user forums, or perhaps you could send an email to their support address.

Personally, I would prefer to do it on the pc - the in-camera stuff never gives me the result I want, and I like having the control that I get when doing things in post processing.

Good luck with it.

Unless you intend to use the Memory Stick to take image files to a lab for printing, here is no useful purpose in copying image files to any memory card, Memory Stick, SD / SDHC, xD or CF card. Any help on how to fix it? Thanks any help is appreciated

You will have to call Nikon and find the nearest authorized repair shop. 800.NIKON-UX

You yourself cant fix it

Warranty wont cover this

Call Nikon if you like but if they refer you to a service center you will most likely have to pay just to get a repair estimate

The repair cost will undoubtedly be nearly if not more than a new camera

Use more caution with your equipment so you dont drop another camera

kodak zi6 hd camera HELP!?!?

i have a kodak zi6 and everytime i put Brand New batteries in it dies...why is this happening..i use high quality batteries too

Best Answer

What do you mean "dies". Does it fail to turn on immediatedly when you put in batteries? Does it work for 45 seconds before shutting down? You are inserting the batteries in the right direction correct? You are using 4 fresh AA's right? You've tried Brand New AA alkaline batteries?

Even though it says you can use NiMH or NiCd batteries, you should always check power problems with new alkaline batteries.

my SD card is saying i have no pictures, and isn't coming up as a document on my computer?

i had quite a few pictures on my SD card (for samgung Es63)
when i go to look at them on my camera it says there is no file and when i take a picture, it dosent save.
i have inserted this into my computer via USB and a SD slot but it is coming up as a file not a document so i cant get into it?

    can anyone help me please
i have had it up before but now it just dosent seem to work.

    Best Answer

Most likely the card has failed.

One problem that too many people just don't seem to understand is that memory cards were not designed to be storage devices. Saving photos on a card to show off is not a good idea because these cards can easily fail using them this way.

The best suggestion is to upload after every shoot and format the card in the camera - every time!
This will help keep your card "healthy" for a long time. Using it as a storage device is to invite failure.

What sort of camera's do a Wedding Photographer use? or pixy photographers use.?

I want to set up my own business, and need some help, to what i will have to buy to set this up. i really want a camera that a wedding photographer uses. please help me ........

Here are some quotes from a forum on this subject. A link to the full forum is below.

"If you have never done a wedding before then before you jump in you need to work as an assistant for a while so that you do not completely and utterly mess up the couples big day. Good wedding photography is a skill which can only be learnt with practice so going solo straight is NOT a good idea."

"Buying a set of mechanic's tools does not make you a mechanic.
Buying a set of carpenter's tools does not make you a carpenter.
Buying a DSLR and a flash and a tripod does not make you a photographer."

"If you were ready to start doing wedding photography you wouldn't have to ask a bunch of unknown people here on Y!A what you need."

"If you don't know what gear you need or if the gear you have is sufficient, then you are no where near ready not only for wedding photography, but for any kind of professional venture."

"Their wedding day is the most important day in a couple's life right up to the birth of their first child. Its no place for a rank amateur to be practicing."

"You should plan on working as an assistant to a wedding photographer for at least two years AFTER you've finished photography school before you even think about hiring yourself out as a wedding photographer."

Im not saying everything said is true. I don't know because I don't shoot weddings. All Im saying is it's a lot more than buying a DSLR then hanging a "Wedding Photographer" sign out front.

DSLR, telephoto lenses and some strobes

Answer by misspolonium on 05 Jan 2010 09:22:56

I think you should start taking photography classes, starting at the bottom. Buy an entry level dSLR and become a photographer. Start working with a pro as his/her assistant. After that happens, and you have some kind of skill, then you can think about going into business. And at that time, you won't have to ask anyone what kind of camera a wedding photographer will use, want to use or buy, because you will already know.

You'll have the knowledge to look at what's out there and what will fill your needs. Your question to be honest is incredibly foolish. What would you think of someone that said "I want to become a pro chef, what kinds of pots and pans do pros use?" As if the cookware, or in this case some type of camera would make you a professional photographer or someone ready to charge money. Slow down, you are getting a little ahead of yourself.

cannon sx10is, why has my picture quality taken such a dive?

I seem to have a problem with the contrast settings... the photo's once downloaded look dull and washed out, even though they appear clear on the LCD display. I've mostly shot on auto, though i've tried various variations on the settings...

I will try to reset all the settings but would like to know what i did wrong in the first place...thanks for any and all help

    Best Answer

If the LCD on the camera is still showing images as it has in the past, you have to look to the fault lying with your computer monitor, although I would have guessed that you would have noticed this problem with everything you view using it.

    1) call Canon 800.OK-CANON and have them troubleshoot your camera with you. Unless you made some adjustments on the LCD to make your photos look better after the settings on your camera have been changed buy someone you loaned the camera to, what you see on the LCD, should be what you get.
    2) until you can reach Canon, use the "two button" reset as described in your user manual to bring the camera back to its factory settings ... take a test shot and then copy it to your computer and see if you are having the same problem.

If the above does not help, your computer monitor may be out of calibration. There is a way to correct this but it will cost you a couple hundred dollars to buy the monitor calibration tool and software.

Before you spend any money, take one of your recently shot images you have NOT modified, but looked great on the camera but flat on the computer screen. Put it on one of your thumb drives and then visit a friend and look at that file on their computers monitor. If it matches what your LCD on the camera shows, there is a big chance your computer monitor is not calibrated correctly.

At present the Pantone Huey is the least expensive monitor calibration too out there at just under $90

What are those lamp shade looking things called?

Aren't they called bellows or something? What are they meant for?

Bellows are traditionally used to pump air into a furnace such as one used for forging to get the flames roaring again by introducing more oxygen. They would also use bellows to get higher temperatures for forges when a blacksmith was doing work in them.

Answer by Cody on 06 Jan 2010 01:11:08

You mean the cone or flower shape extensions sometimes seen on the front of a lens? They're called lens hoods. Their main purpose is to prevent light from striking the lens from the sides, as this could result in glare or flaring. They can also offer some protection. The only drawback is that an attached hood might cast a shadow while using flash (particularly with the on-board flash).

Answer by AWriterWandering on 06 Jan 2010 01:30:19
    Best Answer

Do you mean bellows as in the bellows on lenses? They allow you to move a lens towards or away from the film plane in order to gain magnification beyond the standard 'macro' of 1:1. With bellows and extension tubes, you can reach about 20x lifesize magnification.
They also allow lenses to become tilt-shift lenses to correct converging verticals.

[URL Truncated] might give you an insight.

Answer by Mick on 06 Jan 2010 01:58:40

Are you thinking of a lens hood?

They are put on the end of DSLR lenses to help block out some unwanted light and they also help protect the front of the lens from the weather and scratches.

HP Photosmart m547, immediately turns off when I go into shooting mode.?

I recently dropped my camera into some water, i took out the batteries and memory card and let it dry out. It seemed to work fine, I turned it on and was able to browse my pictures and videos with no problems but then I tried to put it into shooting mode and it loses power, the lens does not even retract before it turns off. I have tried replacing the batteries and lithium batteries, neither helped. I removed the memory card, and tried resetting the camera. Nothing seems to help though. I'm trying this before I take it to a specialist who im sure is gonna charge a small fortune to fix it. So please no, "Idk take it to a camera store." answers.

the 18-55mm and 10-20mm can only be used in DX-crop mode, and not the whole sensor. Which means you only get the center 5MP or so area.

How do I get video from my Canon Powershot SD780 IS on to my computer?

Okay I just got a Canon PowerShot SD780 IS for Christmas and I want to start posting YouTube videos but I can't figure out how. When I plug the camera in to the computer only my pictures come up.

    Best Answer

I've owned Canon cameras for years and have never, ever had that problem. When you connect your camera to your computer with the USB cable, ALL the files are transferred, whether they are video files or images.

So, you need to make sure you are looking in the right place. Your videos should have a .mov or .MOV file extension.

Also, you need to make sure you are using the correct viewer. Your video (.MOV) files will not play in Windows Media Player and you cannot edit them in Windows Movie Maker.

You will need to view them in a compatible viewer, such as Apple's Quicktime. If you don't have it, you can download the latest (free) version from the link below. You'll find Quicktime 7 in the centre of the page...
    [URL Truncated]

p.s. before transferring large video files, make sure the camera battery is adequately charged before connecting it to the computer via the USB cable.

Using a USB 2.0 card reader is another option...it's usually a faster method of transferral and it doesn't rely on your camera at all...so you don't have to worry about draining the battery.

Is there a good digital camera that runs on batteries?

Im looking for a Digital Camera (one of those bigger ones) that has a really fast shutter speed and pretty good picture quality but also runs on desposeable batteries. Im thinking of anything under $700. I go on long camping trips so i want something that can quickly catch pictures, is durable and since i dont have access to many power outlets a way to use throw away batteries.

They all run on batteries and if you buy a battery grip, it can use both Li-ion and disposable AA batteries.

Look for the Nikon D40 with 18-55 mm and 55-200 mm lenses ... under $700

Yes, you want a DSLR camera. Here are the models I would look at:

    Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $480
EOS Rebel XS 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm IS Lens - $449
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom Lens (has HD Video also) - $550

Below, I listed some links where you can look up reviews and see what camera works best for you. The first link listed below is to a web page that lists the 3 DSLR cameras I am recommending. This list will let you compare features and specs, also it has link to reviews to the 3 cameras, the reviews include sample images from the cameras.

I am a Nikon user just to be up front on that matter but I think you should a really good look at that Pentax K-x I listed above, it also does HD video which may be of interest to someone camping? It also has excellent high ISO quality which can be helpful when shooting in low light. I am thinking about it for a 2nd camera (it or one of these new compact high quality cameras). This Pentax uses AA batteries, feature some people like and some do not. You can get AA rechargeable and carry extra batteries when traveling camping.

In fact at Adorama, I just looked and they had this deal:

Pentax K-x Digital SLR Black Camera Kit with DA L 18-55mm & 50-200mm Lenses for $638

Ok, so much for my ramble. If you think I can be of any help, so not hesitate to contact me.

Please help me! I need to finish my project for school?

I was assigned a project for my midterm, and I chose a musical field. I recorded myself playing several songs on the piano at my grandmother's house with my digital Cannon camera. Last night, I uploaded the videos onto my computer, but all of them are flipped sideways! I have been trying all night and morning to find some way to flip them right side up but I can't figure them out. I'm frantic right now, please help!

      Best Answer

There are a few video editing programs that can rotate the video images 90 degrees, but you will have to search for them using Yahoo Search and from my understanding they are rather expensive.

Here is one solution from Cheryl on FixYa

      "Vista
Start - Programs - Windows Movie Maker
Click Import Media - select the video clip you want to rotate from your files and point and click on it to highlight it - then click the import button lower right corner of screen.
When the file name appears - drag the clip to the video line at the bottom of the screen - point at file name and hold down right mouse button while you move the mouse to point at the video timeline then let go of the right button to drop the video into the timeline.
Point and RIGHT click on the clip you just added to the timeline
      Click Effects
Scroll down to Rotate 90 and click to highlight it (you could also flip the video with 180 or 270)
      Click the ADD button
      Then click OK
      The video will rotate.
Be sure to publish and save the new video with a name you can find...
File - Publish Movie - to computer will save it as a file on your PC - to DVD will start another program to create a DVD..."

You have discovered the hard way why most photographers to a "test" of important shots before they continue with their assignment or project. Had you copied your video to your computer right away, you would have discovered that you were shooting the performance with the camera mounted 90 degree off where it should have been.

You can take an incomplete and reshoot the scenes properly, try Cheryl's solution or spend the money for a advanced video editing program which will allow you to rotate your video 90 degrees.
