If you are looking to create glamour photographs, the key is lighting. The actual camera receiving the image is much less important than the lights that you set up.

For the best look, you want to invest in professional studio lighting, but this can quickly get very expensive. "Hot lights" are basically very bright incandescent lights, with metallic reflectors. These are relatively inexpensive, with many more basic lights available for less than $100 per lamp, although the prices go way, way up. The disadvantage of these lights is that, to the camera, they are not nearly as bright as they look to your eye, and will not give you the sharpest or brightest shots unless you also use a higher end camera and many lights. The advantage is that you can shoot with multiple cameras and there is no need to wait for a flash to recharge; also you don't have to worry about measuring flash output or dealing with complicated electronics. Strobe lighting, which would use a light sensor to be triggered by the flash in your camera, would produce better results if set up correctly, but you would probably need a more advanced camera to get the right results, and it gets very expensive quickly.

So, I would recommend hot lights for what you are describing. You may also be able to save quite a bit of money either by purchasing used lights, by renting lights, or by creating improvised lights by using light sources that weren't designed for photography, such as work lights and stage lights, or even projectors. (A modern LCD projector can be used to create special effects, but even a throwaway slide or movie projector from a garage sale can be used as a focused light.)

You should do some online research about glamour lighting. If you search for terms like "lighting fashion photography" you may find some good tips. Check out sites like photo.net for some discussion forums and articles. Magazines like Shutterfly have howto articles, most of which are probably available online now.

In addition to lighting, you want to focus on background, makeup, and wardrobe, as well as the model herself or himself. A good fashion photo brings all of these elements together in the precise balance to create a great shot.

In the end, if you can set up the shot correctly, it won't matter very much at all what camera you use. (Really, this is the case for any kind of photography, not just glamour.) With the right lighting, you could do fashion photography with a cameraphone. In fact, for one of their ad campaigns, Sony did just that, using professional lighting, make up, costuming and models to create a glamourous depiction of a model using the phone, shot from another of the same phone. So it can certainly be done with your camera as long as you put the right work into it.

Happy shooting.
