Which lens would be better suited for taking hockey game pictures?

My camera is a Canon EOS Rebel XS.
Lens choices: 18-55mm or 75-300mm?

I guess it depends on where you are sitting (300mm might be a bit much if you are right in front). Also the speed of the lens (f-number) will matter. The faster the lens (lower f-number), the better for low light and indoor photos.

The 70-300 would be a much better choice, unless you are right against the glass. Then it will have two problems... not wide enough, and harder to follow the action up close.

I'd take both if possible, and switch them out for different periods.
