Would it be worth the money to get the Canon 18-200 if it overlaps the 18-55?

Best Answer

Definitely. There is nothing more frustrating that continuously switching lenses when you can't get the right focal length for composing your shot.

Not to imply being snobish, but if you are considering the 18-200, you are probably not looking for the absolute maximum lens performance so don't worry, you are not sacrificing anything in getting an 18-200 compared to say a 55-200 lens. The latter will be a compliment to the kit 18-55 lens with typically the same quality as both the 18-55 and the superzoom you are considering.

With the 18-200, you will be able to take your camera on outings and get both a wide panorimic view shot and a good telephoto shot without fumbling with lenses and risking damage due to dropping a lens or getting dust/dirt into the camera while switching.
