canon sd1200 vs canon sd780?

ok so, i am searching for a pocket camera (point and shoot) i've done research on these two cameras. i' am aware of the HD movie mode on the sd780, but i want to hear opinions on the photo quality of these two cameras. i see some shots from online review sites, but they apparently don't know how to take photos because most of the samples ive seen look really bad lol. i am pretty sure canon puts out better quality than that. anywho, to anyone that owns either or both of these cameras i would like to hear all the ups and downs about them. also, if you have any links to any great photos you have taken with these cameras i would like to see them. linketh them to me! thanks!!

I think both are good cameras. If you do not care about the HD video or making bigger prints then the Canon SD1200 IS just as good.

The SD780 has slightly more wide angle in its zoom but a bit less telephoto.

Below is a link to a web page that has a side by side listing of the 2 cameras so that you can compare feature and specs. You may want to check out customer reviews on Amazon and see what people have experienced that have used the camera.

Hope this helps.

There is no big difference between Canon SD780 and SD1200, only HD video.
If you want HD video, SD780 is your good choice but if you don't mind than then Canon SD1200 IS a good choice with cheaper price.

Is the Nikon CoolPix S220 digital camera comparable to a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS15?

I have an HP 6.2 megapixel camera that's 4 years old that I've always liked well enough, but I want to get something a little better/newer. I saw the Nikon Coolpix on Walmart's website, and it's only around $120. I don't have experience with Nikon, but a friend of mine has a Panasonic Lumix that works quite well. The Nikon is 10MP, and the Panasonic is 12MP, so maybe this is the main difference? Thanks in advance.

Best Answer

I'd give the edge to the Panasonic. The zoom range on the Panasonic is 5x which is better than the 3x on the Nikon. This means you will get a wider wide angle shot (29mm vs 35mm) and a higher magnification on the telephoto end too (145mm vs 105mm). The Panasonic uses both optical and Digital image stabilization while the Nikon only used Digital (the cheapest and lesser effective form of image stabilization)

10MP vs 12MP makes virtually no difference at all so that is not important.

Both have nearly a 1 second shutter lag which means the camera does not take a picture until nearly a second after push the shutter button. OK for posed snap shots, but a deal breaker if you are trying to capture a fleeting image.

The Nikon has slightly poorer picture quality than the Panasonic and that is not due to the pixel count, it is due to poorer processing of the image. BTW MP count should rarely be used as a benchmark for picture quality. Most DSLR's with 5MP that will blow a 12MP point and shoot camera away. But what's important to you is probably picture quality of 4x6" prints and computer viewed pictures. Both of these will be completely adequate for this.

If it were up to me and I had to choose between just these two, I'd go for the Panasonic even though it is about $50 more.

How can you fix an SD camera memory card error without losing the photos on the card?

I was taking photos fine on my camera one night and the next morning when I went to look through the photos a message saying 'card error' came up. Now the camera won't work with the memory card in it. Is there any way to fix this without losing the photos because the memory card has all the photos from my vacation.

Thanks for any help =D

Do nothing else with the card. Download 'recuva' and install it. It's free.

Plop your card into your computer/reader, run recuva and cross your fingers. If the images are recoverable, recuva will do it's magic things.

There is the possibility that you've fried your card with static or whatever, or that the card has simply died. Recuva can't do anything for you - neither can anything else - but at least you've lost nothing by trying.

Why can't I upload pictures from my camera onto the computer?

When I plug it in it does nothing. Then when I go to My Computer and enter into ACERDATA(D:), I get 4 files, a notepad, and a window icon.
No way I can download any pictures. I didn't use to do that.

Best Answer

The first thing to try is rebooting the computer. That solves a lot of ills.
Second, look to see if there isn't another device besides ACERDATA that has the pictures.
Third, get a card reader. My SD to USB converter cost me $4 and it allows me to upload my pictures without running the battery down on my camera.

Having problems with my canon powershot A480, the lens hit my hand on the way out now it shows a lens error?

HOW DO I FIX IT, TRIED ALIL BIT OF EVERYTHANG, ALL THAT GRINDING AND THE CAMERA LENS SOUNDING LIKE ITS GONNA BREAK IS KILLIN ME

Get it to factory if underwarranty(not sure do them cover this case),or send to shop.

Answer by inspire on 13 Jan 2010 05:12:38

You most likely knocked the lens off the track. You can try putting it back on the track yourself. I have done it before but I recommend taking it in for service. If you want to try fixing it yourself you can pull on the lens very, very gently and twist it. Canon has a one year warranty though, if you are still inside the warranty send it in.

I purchased a Kodak camera model Easyshare C330, but there was a problem on the lens. When I turned the camera on, the screen shows the error 15 and 25. It says something about "Lens error" and "Lens stepper motor error".

I was looking for some information on internet about how to fix this problem and I found this is a common failure on Easyshare kodak cameras. So far, this problem affects models DX 4530, V550, C310, C330, C643 C743, LS443 and who knows how many models.
Taken from [URL Truncated]
The solution posted on internet is so simple: Hit it. bang the camera and the lens will work again. Even a woman said she was so upset, she throwed the camera against the wall and miracle!, it was working again.

So, How is possible that "banging" the camera will fix it? Doesn't make sense.

My camera have no serial number as it was erased because the use (Kodak, next time, engrave serial numbers), so I was not able to determine if it still under warranty. Kodak charges more than $100.00 to fix it plus shipping and handling... a new camera is less than $100.00

I decided to find the reason who those camera fails, even the Nikon cameras (coolpix models) have the same problem, specially the L3 and L4. As I have experience on electronics and destroying some items, I decided to find the source of the failure by myself.

First, I removed 6 screws from the camera.
*** Warning *** Do not try this. Hi-voltages are present on all Digital cameras.

To remove the front cover, I had to remove two screws on the side.

Before removing the cover, I had to pry the trigger to remove it. Now, the front will come out.

Now, after receiving a nasty shock becase I was not careful enough, I had to discharge the capacitor. It contains more than 300 volts with a high current charge. Believe me: You shoud NOT try to open your camera unless you know what are you doing.

After removing the cover, I found there is no access to the lens mechanism, so I had to find another way to disassemble it. While looking, I saw the low quality work done on the camera during assembly at the factory.

To access the lens, I had to remove the display. Removing it carefully as I had to use a flat screwdriver taking care of the ribbon cable. The white and pink cables are hi-voltage cables.

Under the display, there are four screws that needs to be removed.

Finally, I have access to the lens. Now, I have to remove three (maybe four) more screws to see the lens mechanism and find why those cameras fails.

The CCD is completely exposed. It should be protected and avoid any contact with it.

Finally, Here is the problem: Teeth gears are broken.

Those gears are tiny that, actually, it breaks easily.

So. If you have a Digital Camera with "Lens Error", you may be able to fix it banging it because the broken tooth is jamming the mechanish. When you hit the camera, the tooth broken will fall and the mechanism will work again...

... but it will not work for too long. Slowly, other tooth gears will break and the lens will die.

Kodak, as other manufacturers, saves a lot of money using cheap part. Shame on you Kodak! A simple gear that cost less than 5 cents makes a $100.00 camera completely unusable.

Well... In fact, is not their fault. Think about it and you will find why manufacturers are using cheap parts.

So, If you have a Kodak camera, or Nikon camera with "lens error", it may work again if you bang it a little, but that "repair" doesn't completely fix the problem. It will completely break soon.
